I have seen it posited that a system can only create a product structurally homogeneous to itself, which is certainly being displayed by this new "virtual development team" model.
In the future, I suppose we will witness the development of the virtual corporate raider, the artificial law firm, and perhaps even (in a very interesting twist of the fall of the west) the digital warband...
There's a large grain of salt for "understanding the user’s context well enough to take meaningful action without being told exactly what to do." The user should first have a clear idea in a defined, or definable, context. This could quickly become an inverse Turing Test for human staff.
Observation is based on 15-20 years of increasing frustration from engaging with customers, whose wants collapsed to "10% more gooder" or "not this, something else, better." No interest in defining their needs, because that took clarity in one or more contexts, and the ability to move from One Big Solution to several separate ones.
