Everything Vox said makes sense but I have a hard time trusting that these companies training AI models don’t have a hidden sinister agenda. Rewriting what certain books said?

That would probably have been prohibitively expensive

Anthropic could have rebound the books and then auctioned them off for charity or other purposes.

Perhaps you could volunteer to do that for them in the future.

That wouldn't have made any sense. The vast majority of books they scanned were worthless paperbacks. There is zero value in a used 27th edition Stephen King paperback.

About the same as a 1st edition.
