That wouldn't have made any sense. The vast majority of books they scanned were worthless paperbacks. There is zero value in a used 27th edition Stephen King paperback.

That would probably have been prohibitively expensive
Anthropic could have rebound the books and then auctioned them off for charity or other purposes.
Perhaps you could volunteer to do that for them in the future.
